Secretaries Summary - February Edition

Sita Turner

A monthly round up of all things Westwell Players from our Secretary, Sita Turner

Rehearsals for ‘Gym Bunnies’ are underway, and I am thrilled to see my words coming to life

on the stage. There is something quite magical about watching a group of people take an original idea and turn it into something that is so quintessentially Westwell. The joy of a murder mystery is undoubtedly in the audience participation and their responses to the characters. For this performance, you will have the opportunity to take on a role yourself, that of an amateur detective and we can’t wait to see whether you manage to guess whodunnit! With prizes on offer too, it promises to be an entertaining night of super-sleuthing. The performances will run on the 15th, 16th and 17th May so make a note in your diaries so you can be first in line when tickets go on sale next month. Remember, if you sign up to our mailing list, you will also be notified when tickets go on sale so you can take advantage of our Early Bird offer. You can do this by visiting the website.

A great deal of effort was put into improving the stage in 2024, with a newly painted floor, new lighting and adjustments to the wings and curtains, allowing for smoother entrances and exits. This year our focus is on making the most of our props space and making further adjustments to the stage so it is as functional as possible for the actors and backstage crew. As a not-for-profit organisation, everything we take from shows goes back into Players so that we can bring you the best quality performances. We would like to thank our audiences for supporting us over the years and enabling us to make these improvements.

Our social calendar is also filling up nicely, with ghost walks and a ‘Stars in their Eyes’ night already in the pipeline. Last year we were spoiled with opportunities for quiz nights, karaoke nights, theatre trips and a Eurovision night. Not only are these events super fun and a way to bring us together as a community, but they also help generate further funds to make improvements to our staging and performances.

Sadly, we waved goodbye to Luke Milligan at the end of last year as he goes on to pursue a career in acting. Luke was responsible for our incredible artwork and videography and has left very big shoes to fill. We wish him well and can’t wait to hear about his new projects.

As our players ‘warm up’ into their roles, I look forward to bringing you more news and updates from the rehearsal room over the next few months.
